DTSG Sets To Build Civil Service Club

BY AMAYINDI YAKUBU

The establishment of a civil service club where civil servants in Delta State can unwind and unite is gradually becoming a reality under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The news, which was shared by the Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Mininim Oseji at the second breakfast dialogue with Permanent Secretaries and heads of extra-ministerial departments in Asaba, sparked excitement among the civil servants.

At the breakfast dialogue, which coincided with activities marking her first 100 days in office, Dr Oseji recounted a 15-point resolution from the maiden edition in May, even as she called on all civil servants to unite in their collective quest to make greater achievements.

The communique from the first breakfast dialogue highlighted, among other things, the establishment of a civil service club as a platform for socialising, knowledge-sharing and promoting sportsmanship for healthy living among the state’s workforce.

‘’I am very happy to tell you (civil servants) that we have gotten a confirmation for the Ministry of Lands and Survey that the land that was apportioned for the civil service club is around the state secretariat and it is still available and that we can come and commence work,’’ Dr Oseji announced.

Reviewing some of the resolutions, the Head of Service said she would be meeting with the permanent secretaries to know the best-performing and worse-performing Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) on their key performance indicators (KPIs).

She reiterated her promise to engage in quarterly meetings with Permanent Secretaries and other Heads of MDAs to discuss how workers who are proactive, vibrant and ready to serve can be selected for specific assignments, and this would result in a level play-field for all civil servants.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr Maxwell Awuse, said the second edition of the breakfast dialogue sought to highlight issues in the contributory pension scheme, and understanding volunteerism.

At the dialogue, papers were presented by two resource persons; Chairman Bureau for State Pensions, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, represented by Mr Shola Omare, who presented a paper on “Contemporary Issues on the new Contributory Pensions Scheme”, and supported by the Secretary of the State Pensions Bureau, Comrade Lawson Efenudu.

The second resource person, Mrs. Maria Adheke, who is the State Coordinator, Nigeria National Volunteer Service, presented a paper on the topic “Understanding Volunteerism”.
The high point of the ceremony was the re-launch of the July 2025 edition of The Delta Bureaucrat, a biannual journal publication by the Head of Service of Delta State.
