AS the management, staff and Board members of the Nigeria Delta Development Commission (NDDC) marked the silver jubilee of the creation of the commission, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor has urged members of the commission not to relent on the core mandate of human capital, environmental and societal developments in the region
Rt. Hon. Guwor gave the charge in his goodwill message to the Board, management and staff of the commission on their 25th anniversary celebration.
In the message, which formed part of his remark at the resumed plenary of the state Assembly, the speaker lauded the interventionist agency for all its achievements in the last 25 years in the Niger Delta region and, beyond.
Guwor, who is the National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of state Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, acknowledged the positive impact the NDDC has made in the advancement of the lives and physical infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.
He lauded the commission for attaining the significant milestone in its mandate to the people and charged it to continue to set the tone for human capital, environmental and societal development, thereby making the difference in the region.
The speaker also on behalf of the state legislature, again congratulated the Delta State students, who represented Nigeria in the World School Debate Championship, held in Doha, Qatar, for winning the prestigious medal.
Guwor said that the students had made the state and the entire Nigeria nation proud, attributing the development to the commitment of the Delta State government towards standards in the education system.
Describing the victorious students as “Worthy Ambassadors of Delta State”, the speaker reaffirmed the state Assembly’s supports to building a greater future for the young generations.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, joint Committees on Special Bills and Peace and Security, Hon Emeka Nwaobi has submitted the report on the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency bill.
Hon Nwaobi said after due consultation with relevant stakeholders, the committee upheld the repealing of the old law and enactment of a new Delta State Community Corps Security Agency law.
He said the proposed law would strengthen and enhance the agency’s effectiveness and promote accountability in community policing in the state.
The House also granted leave to the member representing Ughelli North 2 Constituency, Hon Spencer Ohwofa to bring in a Bill for a law to repeal the Delta State Lotteries Board law of 1976, the Delta State Lotteries law 1990, Delta State Pools Betting ( Control and Taxation) law of 1996, the Delta Casino Gaming Machines management law of 1996, and the Delta State Betting Duty law of 1954 in order to enact a law to establish the Delta Gaming Board, which is to help regulate and control Gaming activities in the state.
