TRAGEDY was averted as sympathizers rescued a Nigerian soldier attached to Army school, Nicoho in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, after he reportedly fell into a ravaging flood.
Reports revealed that the incident occurred at the weekend while the yet to be identified soldier was attempting to cross a drainage close to Igbira camp in Auchi.
A witness, who simply identified himself as Justice, said: “as the soldier attempted to jump across the drainage, he lost his balance and fell into the flooded drainage.
“The ravaging flood arising from a heavy downpour, swept him away. However, the timely intervention of passers-by saved the soldier.
“The passersby and other residents in the area quickly ran after him on the road.
“They placed a barricade and laid wait at the other end of the drainage and rescued the embattled soldier alive.”
The spokesman for the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
