Akiri Emerges 17th Chairman Of ICAN, Asaba District Society

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Asaba & District Society has held the investiture of its 17th Chairman, Mr. Ogheneriobororue Akiri and the inauguration of the 2025/2026 Executive Committee, marking the beginning of a new dawn in the professional accounting body.

The investiture was held over the weekend at Crescendo Event Centre, Asaba, a colourful ceremony graced by eminent dignitaries, among which was the 61st President of ICAN, Mallam Haruna Yahaya, represented by Lucy Okena, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, an ICAN member, who was represented at the occasion, as well as the Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Grace Esimigbemi Edu, MD/CEO of Blossom Group of Companies. Others were the Accountant-General of Delta State, Mr. Innocent Okunbor, an ICAN member who stood in for the Commissioner of Finance, Sir Okenmor Fidelis Tilije, immediate past Accountant-General, Mrs. Joy Enwa, immediate past Chairman of ICAN, Asaba & District Society, Edward Obiefuna Martyns, among others.

In his address after his investiture, Akiri specially thanked the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme for his “rentless support to the district society”. He also thanked the past and present AGs for being a dependable pillar of support and to the Special Guest of Honour, Edu for honouring the occasion with her presence and substance, while he also paid tributes to other guests.

Akiri unveiled his vision for the district society, including decking and roofing of the District Resource Centre/Secretariat, to build the capacity of members through training and technical sessions for value enhancement, to enhance the visibility of ICAN through well-thought-out programmes and networking within the district’s catchment area and membership drive through ‘Catch Them Young’ programme and NYSC collaboration at the NYSC orientation camps. Among the donors for the district’s secretariat completion were Sir Fidelis Okenmor Tilije who donated N1 million, Mrs. Joy Enwa, N200, 000, ANAN Asaba branch, N50, 000, among other donors.

The inaugurated exco members were Mrs. Jarikre Onajite, Vice Chairman, Dcn. Godspower Elumalue, Deputy Vice Chairman, Mr. Ese Agbagbara, General Secretary, Onakoma Omo-Odudu, Treasurer, Mrs. Blessing Tobi, Financial Secretary, Miss Judith Akporedafe, Social/Welfare Secretary, Oghoro Emuesiri, Social/Publicity Secretary, Mr. Michael Atokpe, Asst. General Secretary, Mrs. Winifred Enecheziam, Membership Secretary, Oniovokukor Patricia Ijeoma, Technical Secretary, Mr. Edward Obiefuna Martyns, Ex-officio/IPC, Mrs. Omoyemi Dede, Ex-officio and Mrs. Evelyn Odeh, SWAN Representative.

Akiri said beyond the pomp and pageantry of the occasion, what lies ahead is an enormous responsibility, hence he solicited active participation, suggestions and contributions to make ICAN Asaba & District Society a hub of excellence.
