A young man in his 20s, popularly known as Godzilla, was shot dead over the weekend in Asaba during a struggle with criminals who attempted to snatch his phone. The incident occurred in one of the satellite areas of Asaba, close to neighbourig Ibusa community where the deceased resided.
According to sources who spoke to The Pointer, the assailants stormed the shared premises of the victim, prompting other residents to flee for safety.
However, Godzilla reportedly resisted the attackers’ attempt to take his phone.
Sources said the resistance may have enraged the criminals, leading them to shoot him in the stomach before fleeing the scene. He was left in a pool of blood and later confirmed dead. As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to officially confirm the incident.
Meanwhile, residents have continued to express concern over the growing spate of insecurity in the area. It would be recalled that the Delta State Government had recently reassured citizens of its commitment to tackling crime and restoring peace across the state.
