THE Class of 2003–2007 of Local Government Chairmen in Delta State has passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, commending their developmental strides and peace building efforts across the state. Consequently, the group endorsed them as its candidates for the 2027 elections.
The resolution was reached, yesterday, during a meeting of the former local government chairmen at the Office of the Chairman, Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Austin Obidi in Asaba.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Executive Director, Projects, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun (Dr.) Ebenezer Okorodudu said the group had been meeting periodically since leaving office nearly 19 years ago to discuss issues of governance and grassroots mobilization.
“Out of the 25 chairmen that served with me, we have sadly lost nine, leaving 16 of us who still meet to deliberate. Governments are products of our labour, so it is our duty to support and sustain the system. When we have a governor doing fantastically well in all ramifications, we cannot afford to distract him. We must work, pray, and ensure a uniform voice for Oborevwori to continue with his MORE Agenda for Renewed Hope in 2027,” he said.
Okorodudu, who is the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, added that the group was also fully behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, stressing that peace and stability remained critical for development in Delta State.
On his part, host of the meeting and Chairman of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Austin Obidi, described the forum as “a family of distinguished lady and gentlemen who served as Local Government
chairmen from 2003 to 2007.”
Obidi, a one-time local government Chairman of Oshmili North, noted that the meeting reviewed the achievements of Governor Oborevwori and found that no part of the state had been neglected.
“Arising from this meeting, we resolved to pass an implicit vote of confidence in the Governor. He has turned the state into one big construction site. We are appealing to all well-meaning Deltans to support him and ensure there is no vacancy in Government House come 2027, so that he can finish the good work God has started using him,” Obidi said.
He further urged local government authorities to deepen engagement with the grassroots by showcasing ongoing projects and sensitising communities on the gains of Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda as well as Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
