Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ika Federal Constituency have organised a crucial meeting in Boji-Boji Owa to deliberate extensively on the current state of the party in the constituency and to reposition its affairs.
Speaking during the meeting, Ika North-East Party Acting Chairman, Hon. Ucheonye Ujor, called on party stakeholders to remain committed to the PDP, noting that the party has done well for Delta State.
He urged them to mobilise support for the party by backing its national leadership. He further used the medium to thank the National Substantive Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, for his visionary leadership and his efforts in repositioning the PDP in Delta State.
In his address, his Ika South counterpart, Comrade Jude Obuh, noted that the reason party members across the constituency still held fast to their political integrity and loyalty was that the PDP’s administration had fared far better than that of any other political party since the inception of Nigeria’s modern democracy in 1999.
According to him, “It is the truth that PDP is better than any other political party in Nigeria. That is why we have not abandoned the ship that is sailing us to victory. Let me remind you all once again that PDP is not dead; it is alive.
“Our responsibility now is to come out stronger, more united, and more committed to the progress of the party. As we prepare ahead, let me also inform you all that our great party will, on the 15th and 16th, organise its National Convention, which will usher in a new change in power come 2027.”
During the meeting, the leaders and stakeholders of the party in the area issued a communiqué stating that members of the constituency had pledged their total loyalty to its leadership while expressing satisfaction with the zoning of the presidential ticket to the South.
The communiqué confirmed the resumption of all ward party activities, noting that all 26 wards in the federal constituency have fully resumed with their executives functioning effectively.
In their commendation to party members in the area, the stakeholders expressed appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices of members across the 26 wards, which they said were deeply acknowledged.
They further called for the security and protection of party members, urging relevant security agencies to continue safeguarding PDP members during ward and unit meetings against harassment from APC-sponsored thugs. They expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force, Agbor Area Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) in Agbor and Owa-Oyibu, and community vigilantes for their efforts in ensuring safety and stability.
They also commended INEC and the Electoral Officers (EOs) in both local governments for recognising PDP’s presence by inviting the party to stakeholders’ meetings and honouring their invitations.
The stakeholders advised APC members in Delta State to focus on good governance and addressing the needs of the people instead of distracting and disturbing PDP members.
They assured that the PDP in Ika Federal Constituency would continue to reaffirm its commitment to the unity, progress, and development of Delta State and Nigeria at large, stressing that the party remains dedicated to promoting good governance, democratic values, and the well-being of its members and citizens.
