Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has maintained that his administration is working to cushion the impact of economic reforms through targeted social intervention mechanisms, investment in infrastructure and support for local industries.
The governor bared his mind on President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, during the 2025 Press Week Lecture/Awards, organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, today at Orchid Hotel, Asaba.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Governor Oborevwori said “our administration is committed to ensuring that these reforms translate into tangible benefits for Deltans and not merely statistical gains.”
“Together, government, the media and the entire citizenry can engender a state and country where reforms are not feared, but embraced as a stepping stone to greatness.
“Let us work together to ensure that tax reforms and exchange rate unification becomes instruments of progress, rather than sources of division.”
“In Delta State, we are committed to reforms that are rooted in fairness, broadens the tax base, reduces leakages and ensures that every naira collected is accounted for and invested in our people”, he said, adding that “the recent move towards exchange rate unification is a bold attempt to stabilize our currency, attract foreign investments and eliminate distortions in the forex market.
“While the subtle implications include inflationary pressures and adjustment pains, the long-term benefits are clear- greater investor confidence, level playing field for businesses and enhanced competitiveness for goods and services.” Both Governor Oborevwori and the commissioner were honoured by the NUJ, Delta State Council. The awards were presented by the Zone F Vice President of the NUJ, Comrade Opakama Dokubo, alongside the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe. Awardees included Asiwaju Sola Adebayo who made a donation to the NUJ at the state and zonal levels, among others.
