FORMER Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe has thrown his weight behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s re-election bid, declaring that leaders and stakeholders have resolved to support the governor for a second term in 2027.
Orubebe made this known when members of the Ijaw Journalists Association Worldwide (IJAW), paid him a courtesy visit in his hometown, Ogbobagbene.
Addressing the group, the former minister commended Governor Oborevwori’s performance, particularly in the area of road and infrastructure development across the state.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated commitment to completing key projects that had lingered for years.
He noted that the Ughelli/Asaba road that was uncompleted under previous administrations has now been successfully delivered by the current government.
“We have all settled for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. We will work hard to support him, campaign for him and re-elect him as Governor of Delta State in 2027.
“When I drove from Ughelli to Asaba for the first time after the completion, I couldn’t believe it. That road was one the previous administrations couldn’t complete, but Governor Oborevwori came and finished it.
“I have seen his determination to develop the state and I am also joining other leaders for us to support him for his second tenure”Orubebe said.
He also praised ongoing infrastructural developments in Warri, including improved road networks and bridges, as well as the recent award of flyover projects in Ughelli and Agbor, describing them as clear evidence that the governor was paying attention to every senatorial district in the state.
Looking beyond 2027, the former minister also spoke on the zoning arrangement in the state, noting that after Oborevwori’s second term, the governorship should shift to Delta South in 2031.
He expressed optimism that leaders and political stakeholders from the region would consult widely to produce a visionary and people oriented governor.
