AS part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the scourge of malaria in the State, Warri North Local Government Council has launched its Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets distribution campaign across the region.
The event was led by the wife of the council Chairman, Mrs. Omasan Ashima, who also served as the Programme Ambassador and Chairperson of the initiative.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Ashima promised to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that children and pregnant women in the area no longer lose their lives to malaria.
She emphasized her commitment to using every available channel and resources to spread awareness about the proper use of insecticide-treated nets, urging families to sleep inside the nets every night for maximum protection.
She called on residents to cooperate with the Community Mobilization Team (CMT) by staying at home during visits, providing accurate household information, and bringing old or damaged nets when coming to the distribution points.
The chairperson assured the public that the new nets were safe and highly effective in protecting every family member from mosquito bites.
Ashima, who was officially decorated as the Net Programme Ambassador, by the programme officer, Mrs. Patience Nunu, announced that the distribution exercise, which began from May 26, would run until May 31, 2025, following a month-long training programme for local health workers.
She expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Health, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Delta State Ministry of Health, Warri North Local Government, and Roll Back Malaria partners for their collaborative support.
The highlight of the ceremony was a symbolic demonstration where she showed how to properly sleep under the mosquito net, as well as physical distribution of nets to the gathered residents at the venue.
