The Executive Director of Projects on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, has charged Nigerian beauty queens and kings to see their crowns as symbols of divine grace, responsibility, and authority, urging them to contribute meaningfully to societal development, particularly at the grassroots level.
Dr. Okorodudu gave the charge when he received members of the Association of Beauty Queens and Kings, Nigeria during a courtesy visit to his office in the DESOPADEC corporate head office in Warri.
Speaking during the visit, Okorodudu described the concept of beauty pageantry as “a rich part of our culture and tradition,” noting that it goes beyond glamour and fashion.
“The concept of a beauty queen is quite rich,” he said. “We want to promote natural beauty which is the appreciation of God for the creation of mankind.
When you wear that crown, it is not just for show. You are carrying a crown of glory, a crown of favour, a crown of authority and you must carry it with knowledge and responsibility.”
He emphasized that beauty queens should engage in humanitarian projects that uplift the less privileged and strengthen community values.
Dr. Okorodudu responding to their request, assured the group of his support, noting that though he was not informed early about their scheduled visit to Okpare-Olomu for the food distribution, he commended their humanitarian effort and encouraged them to keep impacting lives.
Earlier in her remarks, Ambassador Henrietta Henry, National Vice President of the group, commended Dr. Okorodudu for his philanthropic efforts and developmental strides in Delta State.
Ambassador Henry outlined the association’s achievements, which include:
Establishment of 26 branches across Nigeria, including Lagos and Abuja.
Donation of aprons and financial empowerment to market women. Yearly free medical outreach and skill acquisition training as well as donation of educational materials to schools and launch of the Save the Girl Child campaign in 10 states.
She noted that the purpose of the visit was to appreciate Dr. Okorodudu’s contributions, seek his mentorship and acceptance as a patron, and invite him to the association’s 14th National Conference and Anniversary scheduled for November 28, 2025, in Cross River State.
Ambassador Henry further disclosed the group’s plan to honor him with the Ambassador of Youth Award, after which he would be formally addressed as Ambassador Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu.
She also briefed him on the association’s ongoing Rural Palliative Empowerment Project, in Okpare Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta State which is aimed at supporting widows, orphans, in society through the donation of food items, monetary, and educational assistance.
