The Executive Director of Projects on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu, alongside other prominent Urhobo leaders who have distinguished themselves in service, have been honoured with a meritorious award of excellence by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) worldwide.
The recognition formed part of activities marking the 2025 Urhobo National Day Celebration held at the Urhobo House, Uvwiamuge-Agbarho, Delta State.
Dr Okorodudu, who also served as the Chairman of the 2025 Urhobo National Day Celebration Planning Committee, was honoured for his unprecedented selfless service and commitment to the growth and sustainable development of the Urhobo ethnic nationality.
In his appreciation speech, Dr Okorodudu expressed gratitude to the UPU and the entire Urhobo nation for the honour bestowed on him. He noted that the award was a call to greater service and reaffirmed his commitment to continue contributing to the unity, progress, and advancement of the Urhobo people.
“I am truly humbled by this recognition, and I dedicate it to all who work tirelessly for the upliftment of our nation,” he said.
In his remark, the Chairman of the event, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, called on Urhobo sons and daughters to self-assess, reflect and reawaken Urhobo to what the founding fathers did in the past for the Urhobo nation.
Other notable recipients of the award include the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Chief Ighoyota Amori, among others.
The annual Congress, themed “Awakening Urhobo Spirit for Unity, Progress and Sustainable Development” brought together distinguished Urhobo sons and daughters from around the world.
