UNIVERSAL Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), have kicked off a four day scale up training on moral regeneration and re-orientation for 700 teachers across the 25 local government areas of the state.

The programme is holding simultaneously at three different centers in the three Senatorial districts of Delta State, including Asaba in Oshimili South, Evwreni in Ughelli North and Warri in Warri South local government areas.

In his speech , the Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Delta State, Hon. Samuel Mariere, said that the capacity building programme is part of the federal and state government’s strategic partnership to integrate moral education in instruction, school activities, and guidance.

Mariere, in his goodwill message across the three training centers, said UBEC and SUBEB are irrevocably committed to seeking ways at advancing basic education in the state.

He acknowledged that incidents of immorality is on the increase in the academic environment; hence focus on moral regeneration and reorientation to check the devastating consequences in the country’s growth and development.

Mariere maintained that society has witnessed heavy decline in moral standards, which have led to erosion of values, virtues and ethical practices.

The SUBEB boss who expressed concern over the low turnout of teachers on the first day of the programme, urged those selected for the exercise to take the training seriously.

He  said that the state government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is determined to restore lost glories in the basic educational system, including curbing immoral behaviours in schools across the state.

The SUBEB Chairman, flanked by other members of the Board, said the ongoing training is compulsory for all the selected teachers, and asked the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bryan Unini to initiate necessary disciplinary measures for those who were nominated, but did not attend the training.

He explained that government cannot afford to waste scarce resources on teachers who are not serious to be equipped for the development of children.

Mariere pledged government’s readiness to build the best children as world champions, even as he reminded teachers on the need to set priorities right to achieve the highest standards in schools.

Some participants who spoke expressed happiness over the training programme and promised to make good use of the opportunity.

They commended UBEC and Delta SUBEB for the exercise which is expected to end on Saturday.
