TUC Advocates Workers’ Mass Transit, Low Cost Housing

BY RITA OYIBOKA

TRADE Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Delta State Branch has reinforced its commitment to the welfare of workers in the state, presenting a strategic Charter of Demands to the government aimed at improving living and working conditions for the state workforce.

Led by the state Chairman of TUC, Comrade Wilson Asekutu paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, who also serves as Supervisor for Labour Relations and SERVICOM.

The TUC leadership reaffirmed its support for the administration’s “MORE” Agenda, emphasizing that industrial harmony is the cornerstone of sustainable development.

Asekutu formally presented a Charter of Demands that outlined several critical worker-centric initiatives. These included the introduction of a CNG-powered Mass Transit Scheme to cushion the rising cost of living, provision of housing units for the state workforce, proper placement in public service roles, and proactive engagement with recognized institutions.

“We are here to build a bridge, not a wall,” Comrade Asekutu said. “A motivated workforce is the engine room of government policy. By addressing these welfare concerns, the State Government is directly investing in the efficiency and productivity of every sector in Delta State.”

The TUC Boss also advocated for the inclusion of organized labour in key State Boards, stressing that workers’ perspectives must be integrated into the policy-making process.

Responding to the presentation, the Senior Policy Adviser commended the union for its professional approach and assured that the administration remains dedicated to creating a worker-friendly environment.
