Three Men Docked For Allegedly Stealing Cement, Iron Rods

THE police, yesterday, arraigned three men, Monday Ilugo, 44, Lucky Osadebe, 48, and Ifeanyi Ogana, 52, before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cement and iron rods worth N2.7million.

The defendants are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Prosecutor, ASP Susan John, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 16, at refuse dump area, Asaba/Benin Road.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants stole 20 bags of cement and 50 pieces of 12mm iron rods from the shop of one Mrs Anyawumelu Ifeyinwa.

She alleged that the total properties stolen amounted to N2, 727,900.00 property of one Mrs Anyawumelu Ifeyinwa.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Laws of Delta, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs Edit Anumodu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1million each, with one surety each in like sum. She ordered that the surety must reside in Asaba and must provide means of identification as well as electricity bills. She then adjourned the case until May 27, for resumed hearing.
