The Executive Director of Projects on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu, has urged members of the Ughelli South United Forum (USUF) to intensify efforts in strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Dr Okorodudu gave the charge today when members of the forum, led by their President-General, Olorogun Godwin Okporoko, paid him a courtesy visit in Warri.
He stressed the need for party members to return to the fundamentals of internal party democracy, noting that the supremacy of political parties in the past helped to produce leaders who were people-oriented and accountable.
“For us to get it right, we must revert to the old politics where political parties were supreme. We must all work towards identifying credible leaders; those who are selfless and carry everyone along,” he said.
Describing the Ughelli South United Forum as a “genuine and purposeful group,” Okorodudu commended their commitment to the progress of the APC in Ughelli South, urging them to serve as the “engine room” for rebuilding the party’s political strength in the area.
He recalled the days when Ughelli South was at the forefront of Delta politics and called on stakeholders to reclaim that position of leadership.
The DESOPADEC Executive Director also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as the governor’s “generous inclusion” of Ughelli South indigenes in key positions of his administration.
“The Governor has been very generous to the people of Ughelli South. He appointed our sons as Commissioners for Works and Commissioner for Justice—two very strategic positions. I was also appointed as Executive Director, Project in DESOPADEC, among several other appointments. Therefore, we must come together to deliver both Governor Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu come 2027,” he said.
Okorodudu further called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area to join the APC, which he described as “the moving train,” so they would not be left behind in the new political realignment.
In his remarks, the Organising Secretary of USUF, Michael Oshetigho, congratulated Dr Okorodudu on his appointment, describing it as divine. He said the group was formed to consolidate political unity and ensure victory for the APC in future elections.
“Because of our experience in previous elections, we have decided to come together early to address the challenges that usually affect our performance at the polls,” he said.
Also speaking, the President-General of the Forum, Olorogun Godwin Okporoko, said that the objective of the group was to build the political strength of Ughelli South and ensure the re-election of both Governor Oborevwori and President Tinubu.
“We know you are one of the important political figures from Ughelli South, and that is why we came to pay you this visit,” he added.
The highlight of the visit was the adoption of Dr Okorodudu as a Patron of the Ughelli South United Forum.
