Spare Parts Dealers Fear High Tension Wires Dangling Near Market

BY AMBROSE OLOGIDE

THE Chairman of Lower Erejuwa Motor Spare Parts Association, Warri, Chief Emeka Odili, has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on the high tension wires hanging dangerously on Lower Erejuwa Road near the market.

Odili appealed in a chat with our correspondent at his store along the Lower Erejuwa Road, Warri, yesterday.

He explained that the appeal was made to reposition the high tension across the newly expanded Lower Erejuwa Road by the culvert to a safe height.

He narrated that before the construction of culvert on the newly expanded road, the high tension wires were in a safe height and that the construction of the culvert under the high tension wires has shortened the height between the culvert and the high tension wires to an extent that no heavy duty vehicle can pass under high tension wires without cutting them.

“Often, I took it upon myself to ensure that heavy-duty vehicles passed under the high-tension wires without any ugly incident. For there is no gainsaying the fact that this is a death trap to commuters, pedestrians and residents.

“We might not be lucky if a first-time heavy-duty vehicle passes under the high tension wires at odd hours of the day when I will not be around,” he added.

An apprehensive Chairman of Motor Spare Parts Association, Lower Erejuwa Road, Warri, complained that he has made several appeals to relevant authorities on the issue to no avail.
