THE wife of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Mrs Diana Abeke, has called for a more equitable and inclusive society where women, especially mothers, can thrive and fulfil their potential.
She made the call during a donation outreach to pregnant women at the Gana Health Centre, Sapele, as part of activities marking her husband’s one year in office.
The event had Mrs Abeke distributing essential items such as diapers, delivery mats, antiseptic soap, and other maternal supplies to nursing and expectant mothers in the community.
She described the initiative as a gesture of love and appreciation for the vital role mothers play in shaping society.
“Every mother deserves support and recognition for her tireless dedication to family and community. This gesture is a small token of our appreciation and a step toward promoting the health and well-being of mothers and their babies,” she said. To ensure the event was not just ceremonial, the local government First Lady engaged a resource person, Okuyave Osuvwe, a trained health professional, who led an interactive antenatal session.
The session addressed key maternal health issues, including the dangers of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, breastfeeding best practices, infant care, and the prevention of birth defects.
Also speaking at the event, the Resident Medical Doctor, Dr Efetobo Adogbeji, delivered a health talk focused on preparing expectant mothers for childbirth and early parenting.
He highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition, physical activity, labour stages, pain relief options, and newborn care. The health education segment further touched on the emotional and psychological aspects of pregnancy, including its effects on relationships and how women can better prepare for motherhood.
The atmosphere was one of gratitude and excitement, as the beneficiaries received the items with cheers and warm words of appreciation.
“Thank you so much for your generous gifts. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness as we welcome our new babies,” one of the expectant mothers expressed on behalf of the group.
Accompanying the First Lady at the outreach were the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Hon. Ese Koko; Women Development Officer, Mrs. Aghohome Atose; SA on Girl Child/Female Youth Affairs, Mrs. Ajejevwe Augustina Eloho; Official Photographer, Mr. Okparanyio Bobolo Dafe; and Special Assistant on Media, Mene Omasan.
