DELTA State is experiencing enormous transformation under the Renewed Hope for More Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with massive development for Deltans.
The Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure, spoke during an appearance on “Morning Ride”, at Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, to discuss the achievements of the Bureau under the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.
While describing the governor as “a man of integrity, who has not borrowed a dime since assumption of office”, the commissioner reiterated that Deltans are lucky to have Oborevwori as governor at a time when governance is centered on self-gain, stating that the governor is a man who has the interest of the people of the state at heart.
Etacherure stated that the importance of the ‘Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda,’ which focuses on all-round sustainable development and empowerment programmes in the state has seen the Bureau for Special Duties involved in disaster response, management and recovery efforts, as well as attending to the plight of victims.
Etacherure said the Bureau is actively involved in disaster management and relief efforts, providing support, succour and assistance to victims and communities affected by natural disasters, such as flooding and fire outbreaks, stating that relief materials distributed to beneficiaries have been monitored by local government area representatives
The commissioner said the most recent activity carried out by the Bureau was the disbursement of N458 million to victims of windstorm in three communities in Okpe Local Government Area, which are Ughoton, Jedo and Oghareki
He outlined some of the key projects and programmes that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is currently working on to drive the MORE Agenda forward. He listed these to include initiatives to improve healthcare services, upgrade of schools and educational facilities, enhanced infrastructure, job creation and economic development, aimed at making life more meaningful for the people.
Etacherure said in the current year, relief materials were distributed to the January 5 Agbor fuel tanker victims, including the distribution of relief materials to the 2024 flood victims across affected local government areas, stating the distribution took place at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) warehouse.
He asserted that the Bureau is doing well in the area of managing pilgrimages to Israel and Mecca by Deltans, stating that the state government sponsors at least t270 pilgrims every year.
The commissioner emphasized the commitment of the Bureau for Special Duties to supporting Governor Oborevwori’s vision for a better Delta State, while he encouraged residents to engage with the government, provide feedback and contribute to the success of the MORE Agenda.
He said the State Fire Service has been given priority in this administration as new and modern fire stations were constructed and renovation of others is taking place across the state.
