The Delta State Government has pledged to partner with the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State to ensure a more effective and efficient coverage of government activities.
The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, made the pledge when he received members of the Chapel’s Press Week Committee who paid him a courtesy visit.
He noted that journalists in the state had been committed to publicizing the MORE Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, highlighting the strong points and constructively drawing attention to areas needing improvement.
Hon Erijo lauded the concept of the Press Week, which he said was a platform for media practitioners to get experts and professionals to speak on topical issues and come up with recommendations that could shape opinions and chart courses.
The Chief of Staff lauded the choice of the theme: “Understanding the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda: Meaningful Development in the Power Sector, a Panacea for Economic Recovery and Development of the Country”, saying that the state government’s partnership with the Federal Government and the private sector in the power sector was in the best interest of the economy.
He said projecting government’s power sector reform plans in that light would help to boost investors’ confidence in the light up Delta project, adding that the proposed seminar/workshop for members of the Chapel was essential to broaden their knowledge and expose them to the new age journalism practice.
Earlier, the Committee Chairman, Comrade Omon-Julius Onabu, said the visit was to seek the state government’s support for the Press Week scheduled for the first week of November, pointing out that the event would feature a lecture, seminar/workshop and fundraising for the purchase of an 18-seater bus for the Chapel.
Also speaking, the Chapel’s Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Olannye, said the theme of the seminar/workshop would highlight the economic importance of lighting up Delta.
