When Dr Olusegun Mimiko set out to establish a university entirely dedicated to Medical Studies as governor of Ondo State the vision no doubt was indeed a noble one. Founded in 2015, the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City as the first specialized medical school in Nigeria was envisioned for impact.
Ten years down the line the lofty vision of the founding fathers is already being compromised and derailed by lecturer/ Doctors who now prey and prawl on the female Medical students insisting on sleeping with them as condition for supervising them. That this is happening at all is absurd and that it is happening under the very watch of the third vice chancellor, herself a woman is deeply worrisome.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe must urgently act to save the female students parents have put under her care from Randy doctors/ Supervisors. It is both morally and legally reprehensible for Medical doctors to be taking advantage of female Medical students they have been paid to supervise.
Parents are tired of endless complaints from their daughters that they have been sexually assaulted by their medical doctor/supervisors. A doctor that operates outside the ethics of the profession deserves to be sanctioned. Parents whose daughters have gone through this traumatic experience in the hands of doctors have also come together to pronounce a curse of incurable and irreversible impotency on these doctors and generations after them.
We sent our daughters to the University to be taught not to be turned into sex toys. The Vice Chancellor had in a recent interview reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to usher in a new era of institutional peace, renewed academic focus, and transformative development in the institution.
This cannot be achieved with Randy and unethical medical doctors preying on the female students. The University authority should be alive to its responsibility in this regard. The founding fathers established an outstanding university not not a haven for sex maniacs masquerading as Medical Doctors/Lecturers
Professor Adejuyigbe should act now as parents are already mobilizing for a protest that will not be a plus to the corporate image of the University.
