THE Omu of Obomkpa, HRH Queensly Ifechukwude Uzoka has condemned vehemently the custom that excludes the female gender from family inheritance.
She spoke to newsmen at a one-day town hall meeting organized by the Minister for Women Affairs at Mariam Babangida Women Centre, Abuja. Addressing the ministers, wives of governors, female captains of industries and female heads of parasatals, she spoke passionately about the abolition of such customs that encourages the disinheritance of the girl-child. These she noted were bad and repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience.
She pleaded with the minister to take the matter to the appropriate quarters and suggested that laws should be enacted to stop such acts of injustice against the female gender.
She, thereafter, affirmed that she would be launching a full campaign against the customs and traditions, adding that she will not rest until they are abolished.
According to her, sustained action and vigilance were crucial to achieving broader gender equality and creating a society where opportunities and rights are equally accessible to all, regardless of gender.
She added that she will be working with the Federation of International Female Lawyers (FIDA) and other legal aids organizations locally and internationally to help those in need of legal actions, where necessary.
