PATRON of the Delta Youth Transformation Movement (DYTM), Dame Nkem Okwuofu has charged the newly inaugurated executive of the body to serve as ambassadors of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda. Okwuofu gave the charge when the executives of the DYTM paid her a courtesy visit at her residence in Asaba.
She described Governor Oborevwori as a humble and disciplined leader, urging the youth body to reflect these attributes in their conducts. “You are now ambassadors of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Being one means you are moving to a level of extreme discipline, loyalty, dedication, industry, and everything good that defines the Governor as a person. Be humble, because our governor is an extremely humble man who exhibits this humility without pretense.’’
She encouraged the new executives to make sacrifices and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state, commending them for their inclusive structure, which reflected representation from various local government areas across the three senatorial districts.
The patron applauded the executives for their proposed projects, particularly the “No to Drugs” campaign, which she described as a timely response to the growing menace of drug abuse among youths in the state.
“The very urgent one is the ‘No to Drugs’ project. I am Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and the Chairman, Government Reserved Area (GRA), so we have been following this issue of drug abuse issue that is spoiling our children, and it is worrisome. It should be worrisome to all of you, and if that is the only thing we can do for Delta State, we have done something’’ she stated.
Okwuofu urged the DYTM leadership to work closely with relevant agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Ministry of Health, to effectively tackle the menace.
Earlier, the Secretary of the body, Comr. Tola Ajimisogbe, outlined key projects mapped out by the body, including, statewide membership expansion, curbing drug abuse, empowering the girl-child and widows through entrepreneurial and skill-based programmes, and promoting social inclusion by creating opportunities for persons with special needs.
