Okorodudu Calls For Unity, Responsible Leadership Among Delta Youths

BY ELOHOR FOGHOLA/ ELIZABETH ODUJE

THE Executive Director, Projects , Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu has called for more unity, mutual support, and responsible leadership among the youths in Delta State.

Dr. Okorodudu made the call,  yesterday, when a delegation of youths from Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, led by their President, Hon. Happy Gbeke paid him a visit at the Commission’s head office in Warri, Delta State.

In his address, Dr. Okorodudu commended the youths for honouring him with their visit, saying it was a reflection of his continued acceptance in the community. ‘’I am from Okpare-Olomu in Ughelli South, it was not by accident but by divine arrangement. God gave me to you, and gave you to me. We are co-inheritors of this land, and I’m proud to stand with you.”

“When your people come to visit you, it means you are still accepted,” he said. “If my past record were bad, you wouldn’t come. This visit tells me I still have your trust—and that means a lot.”

He praised the youths for their maturity and appreciation of his past gestures—particularly during the last December goodwill outreach—Dr. Okorodudu said, “The fact that you appreciated what was done shows that you are responsible. If you value the little things, you will surely value even more when bigger opportunities come.”

Dr. Okorodudu noted that Ughelli South was blessed with several leaders currently in office, urging the youths to make the most of the opportunities available. “We have sons and daughters in positions of influence—from commissioners to assembly members. Some local government areas don’t enjoy this much representation. Let’s pray for more and also for yourselves, because your time will come.”

He urged the youths to imbibe the spirit of contentment, advising them to be grateful for every opportunity they receive, no matter how small. He also encouraged them to remain united, show respect to their leaders, and engage constructively. “Whatever idea you have, take it to your leader and discuss it respectfully.

Responding to their proposal, Dr. Okorodudu acknowledged the pressing needs highlighted by the youths, including empowerment, employment opportunities, and access to education.

He stated that he is fully aware of these challenges, emphasizing that they are basic necessities, not luxuries. He assured the delegation that he would carefully consider their requests and offer support where possible, within the limits of his office.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ughelli South Youth President, Mr. Happy Abeke, congratulated Chief Okorodudu on his appointment as Executive Director, Projects at DESOPADEC.

He also expressed appreciation on behalf of the youths for the support received during the last festive season. He formally presented a proposal outlining their plans and needs in the community.

“We are here to commend you on your appointment and seek your support, we want to work with you to ensure our youths are meaningfully engaged and not drawn into social vices. As our leader, we appeal that you carry us along.”

Other members of the Ughelli South youth delegation included, Mr. Kingsley Odutemu (secretary), Hon. Dennis Edeki (vice president), Udi Joseph (treasurer), Chris Potokri, Ibru Djebah, Emmanuel Asini, Pastor Michael Aye among others.
