By Jumai Nwachukwu

All is set for the 6th edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop (DELCOM 2025), scheduled to hold from October 6-8 in Asaba.

The event, a major platform for knowledge exchange in governance and strategic communication, will be officially declared open by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State.

This year’s edition, themed “Strategic Communication in the Digital Age: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Digital Tools for Effective Leadership,” will focus on how modern communication innovations, particularly artificial intelligence, can be deployed to enhance governance, leadership efficiency, and service delivery in today’s rapidly evolving world.

Speaking on the forthcoming programme, the State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, said the three-day workshop will bring together leaders, communication professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on innovative approaches to digital communication and strategy.

The programme is being organised in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM).

According to Oghenesivbe, participants will benefit from special modules to be delivered by renowned experts. These include Prof. Presley Obukoadata, a professor of Brand, Strategic and Metacommunication and Head of Department of Public Relations and Advertising at Delta State University, Abraka. He is expected to lead sessions on building strong leadership brands, crafting compelling leadership narratives, managing propaganda, tackling misinformation and disinformation, as well as reputational risk management.

Others are Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, an Artificial Intelligence specialist, Strategic Communication Consultant, and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He will anchor modules on AI-driven content creation for leaders, content generation and curation, AI-powered insights for leadership decision-making, and the use of AI for data analysis and sentiment tracking.

He disclosed that the Chief Trainer, Prof. Joyce Ogwezi, Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, will supervise the entire workshop, and also take participants through modules on strategic communication models, practical communication skills, and deployment strategies for effective leadership and governance. “Over the years, DELCOM has evolved into a major hub for fostering best practices in communication and governance in Delta State, creating opportunities for participants to sharpen their skills and adopt modern approaches to leadership engagement.” He said

Dr. Oghenesivbe assured that this year’s participants will gain from interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises designed to equip them with essential skills for corporate communication and public information management, ultimately enhancing service delivery and governance outcomes.
