THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the 2026 Batch A Stream One Orientation course will commence tomorrow across all NYSC orientation camps nationwide, marking the official start of the service year for prospective corps members.
According to the National Directorate Headquarters, registration for the orientation course will take place today and close at midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026. The swearing-In ceremony is scheduled for Friday, January 23, while the closing ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Prospective corps members deployed for the exercise are to report to their respective orientation camps as indicated on their call-up letters. Foreign-trained graduates are required to report with their international passports and original copies of all documents uploaded during the online registration process.
The Scheme advised prospective corps members to carefully read and internalise the contents of their call-up letters, noting that the information provided is essential for a smooth and orderly registration.
In a bid to ensure safety, the NYSC cautioned prospective corps members to use only government-approved motor parks and transportation companies while travelling to their camps. They are also strongly advised to avoid night journeys. corps members who find themselves on the road after 6.00 pm are expected to break their journeys and pass the night at the nearest military or police barracks, NYSC secretariats, or corps lodges.
Graduates of monotechnics and polytechnics are reminded to present their National Diploma certificates in addition to other required documents as a condition for registration at the orientation camps.
For registration, Prospective Corps Members are required to present the original call-up letter or a copy printed online, the original statement of result or certificate duly endorsed by an authorised officer with an authentic signature, and a valid school identity card.
Foreign-trained graduates must also present their international passports and original copies of all documents uploaded during online registration. Medical doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, radiographers, optometrists, and graduates of Health Record and Information Management are to provide evidence of registration with their respective professional bodies.
The NYSC warns that the presentation of fake documents will not be tolerated, stating that offenders will be apprehended and handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution. It also outlines procedures for replacing lost call-up letters, advising affected corps members to obtain police reports and sworn affidavits or reprint the documents online, depending on how they were originally obtained.
The Scheme further emphasises that failure to report for national service or refusal to make oneself available for service will attract prosecution in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act. It adds that individuals who are not eligible for service but attempt to participate will also be prosecuted under the law. Special provisions remain in place for married, pregnant, and nursing mothers posted outside their husbands’ states of domicile. Such corps members may report to orientation camps in their states of residence, provided they present evidence of marriage, acceptable identification of their husbands, and proof of their husbands’ place of domicile. As the orientation course begins nationwide today, the directives reaffirm the NYSC’s emphasis on safety, orderliness, and strict adherence to established mobilisation guidelines.
