Five 2024 Batch B ‘Stream’ II corps members who served in Oshimili South Local Government Area have been honoured with Coordinator’s Awards for their exceptional performance.
The awardees are Adeoye Precious, Apollo Stephen, Olaoye Joseph, Ikechukwu Chidioke, and Timothy.
The awards were presented during the recent Passing-Out Parade (POP) held at the local government headquarters.
Presenting the awards, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr Vandi Kwaghe, commended the recipients for their impactful developmental projects in their host communities.
Represented by the Local Government Inspector, Jebose Nwaokoh, Kwaghe said the awardees went the extra mile to fulfil the scheme’s four cardinal programmes ahead of their peers.
In an interview with The Pointer, one of the recipients, Adeoye Precious, explained that she implemented a project on menstrual hygiene awareness at a secondary school, providing sanitary pads to the schoolgirls.
Adeoye expressed concern that many girls outside the school environment are still traumatised due to misconceptions about menstruation, and noted that students often receive little care during their menstrual periods.
Reflecting on her achievement, she admitted that implementing a personal Community Service Development project was time-consuming and somewhat exhausting, especially when raising funds.
“To receive this award, I would say I have truly made an impact. Yes, I have gone the extra mile. This award is not just given lightly, I know what I have been through,” she said.
She encouraged serving corps members to remain determined, dedicated, and prayerful. “Your first priority should be God. Put God first and everything else will fall into place. Then work towards your plan, prepare a draft of what you want to achieve. Don’t just start without a plan. It can be very draining, but don’t give up.”
