NYSC DG Urges Corps Members To Diversify Income

Corps members have been urged to develop multiple income streams, as long as these do not interfere with their duties at their places of primary assignment.

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, gave this advice while addressing the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1  corpsm at the NYSC Benue State Orientation Camp in Wanunne and the Magaji Dan Yamusa Camp in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

He urged them use their service year to cultivate positive thinking that adds value to their lives and helps chart a productive path forward.

General Nafiu also encouraged the corps members to interact freely with one another and to build lasting relationships throughout their service year. He warned them to avoid all acts of indiscipline and to respect constituted authorities, serving as good ambassadors of the Scheme to ensure a smooth service year. “Your destiny is in your hands. Don’t misuse the opportunities of the service year. Do things that will add value to your lives and stay away from crime,” he said.

General Nafiu further implored the Corps Members to be law-abiding and to use social media responsibly.

In presenting the camp situation report, the NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba, said 947 corps members, consisting of 488 males and 459 females, were registered.

She noted that they had adapted well to the regimented camp life and were actively participating in all camp activities.

Represented by the Camp Director, Mr Edwin Oghanze, Mrs Garba stated that the entire camp staff were working in synergy to achieve the objectives of the orientation exercise.

The NYSC Nasarawa State Coordinator, Mrs Salamatu Muhammad, reported that 1,382 Corps Members had been registered for Nasarawa State, comprising 653 males and 729 females.

She added that 819 Corps Members — including 257 males and 562 females — had also been dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Muhammad stated that all corps members had been integrated into the camp committees and were in high spirits.
