pursuant to good governance, many leadership and Information Technology experts have continued to fashion out researched better ways of making mankind enjoy happy living standards around the world. Many propounded leadership theories have been made, not only available to desiring persons but also translated into easy-to-assimilate technical formats. This is with a view to making life more meaningful for persons inhabiting the earth.
Thomas Jefferson, the third president of America once said; “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Unfortunately, in matters of style, Nigerian political actors indeed, swim with the current, but in principles, they are as unstable as the wind; hence, frequent defection from one political party to the other have remained a recurring decimal in the country’s leadership struggles.
As is the case with credible leaders globally, the application of Information Technology and other modern methods of achieving given leadership roles play great parts in managing national affairs. These traits can be noticed from the way leaders in other climes respond to challenges consistently.
The emanating confusion from the Supreme Court is in addition to the conflicting court pronouncements on the matter between the suspended governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike. Apart from the recent introduction of e-affidavit by Nigerian Judiciary, there are not many people who can pin point to how that arm of government have leveraged on the humongous provisions for the acquisition of computers for use in government offices across board for restricted electronic delivery of management decisions.
Few weeks ago, an All Progressives Congress Stewart, Senator Ali Ndume accused the president of discriminatory method of appointing his political aides. Without cross-checking available records, Tinubu’s Adviser on information and strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga swiftly responded by accusing Ndume of not being satisfied that two of his kinsmen from Borno state made the list of the president’s appointees.
Those who were unimpressed with Onanuga’s response were however dazed further by another feedback from another aide, Mr. Sunday Dare who went further to publish President Tinubu’s appointees. Instead of clearing all doubts about the matter at hand, Dare’s publication confirmed the accusation of the people against the president on his lopsided appointment which have defied the guidelines of the Federal Character commission. In his report, while 24 was the least number of appointees from other geopolitical regions, South East had only 16.
Dare’s action fell in line with the Biblical injunction that it is better to keep one’s mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and clear all doubts. Though, he promised to come up with another authentic list, over five days has passed without further clarifications.
In the Nigerian Senate, its president, Godwill Akpabio is a lawyer. One of its members, Mrs. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a lawyer too. But then, theses honourble members have continued to drag Nigerians into avoidable arguments on what ordinary laymen could have handled noiselessly. Akpabio was accused of sexual harrasement. He did not go to court to seek redress. The same person accused him of plots to assacinate her and he quickly went to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun with a petition urging him (IGP) to investigate and prosecute Natasha.
Nigerians are wondering whether it is within Akpabio’s mandate to issue instructions like this to the IGP who is a member of the executive arm of government.
With the support of government, the US have used the skills of men like Hewllet and Parker (hp), Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and others to turn the country to one of the most economically progressive in the world with 9 out of the 10 richest persons in the world being her citizens. Except for Warren Buffet, their wealth derives from the business of Information and Communications Technology, ICT.
On the contrary, while the Nigerian banks are confortable funding politicians’ campaigns, the talented youths of the nation are left with no options than taking to vices such as ritual killings, yahoo-yahoo and kidnappings as a way of closing the gap between the rich and the poor.
As the governments intensify moves to persuade the youths against criminal acts, they must be seen to be rightly deploying modern implements of governance in the interest of creating enabling environments for businesses to thrive in Nigeria.
