New Delta NYCN Chairman, Sagboje Pledges Unity, Youth Empowerment

THE newly elected Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta State chapter, Comrade Odiri Sagboje, has assured youths of purposeful leadership, pledging to pursue the unity of the council and drive programmes that would positively impact every young person in the state.

Delivering his acceptance speech after his emergence in Asaba, Sagboje said his administration’s  keypriority would be to unite the council and foster harmony among members.

“We want to pursue the unity of the council. We understand that every contest comes with challenges, and we also know that before now, there have been different issues within the council. But this is a new beginning, and we are here to amplify the voice of the youths of Delta State.” he stated.

Sagboje further pledged to return volunteerism to schools and embark on initiatives that would empower council members and Delta youths at large. “We will pursue the empowerment of our members. This mandate is about service, and we are going to hit the ground running,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to those who supported his emergence, Sagboje thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to youth development, and the delegates who entrusted him and his team with the mandate to lead for the next four years.

“Let me thank the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment towards the youths. I want to assure that the youths of Delta state will speak wisely in 2027. Let me also thank our delegates and everyone who have deemed it fit to give us this trust and confidence to lead the council.

‘’Thank you for this mandate you have given to us. We will not take this privilege for granted. Our vision, which is the action agenda of our campaign, is to ensure that every youth of this state feels the positive impact of the NYCN,” he assured.

In his remarks, the Delta StateCommissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakriowei, described the congress as a major milestone in the journey of youth leadership, representation, and advocacy in the state.

He assured that the ministry remained steadfast in its mandate to ensure that Delta youths were adequately supported, mentored, and provided with the right platforms to thrive, pledging continuous collaboration with the NYCN and other youth organizations across the state.

The commissioner urged the new leadership to complement government efforts in tackling social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, and internet fraud, noting that the fight against these societal ills requires collective action.

He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to the empowerment and welfare of Delta youths, highlighting the Governor’s MORE Agenda as a catalyst for entrepreneurial growth, skills acquisition, job creation, and educational advancement.
