LG Chairman Inspects Erosion Sites, Mining Operations

THE Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon. Emma Chinye, has led a joint inspection tour alongside the Delta State Economic Team to address pressing environmental and developmental issues in the region.

The delegation visited the gully erosion sites threatening the communities of Ukwunzu, Obomkpa, and Ugboba, raising concerns over the worsening environmental degradation in the area.

They also inspected the coal mining operations at Ugboba and assessed the proposed site for a power plant in Ubulubu, which is to be developed by Mosra Energy Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Hon. Chinyere affirmed his administration’s commi tment to prioritising the well-being of Aniocha North residents. He urged Mosra Energy to deepen its engagement with host communities through people-centred projects and empowerment initiatives, in line with the state’s MORE Agenda and the Renewed Hope vision of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Mosra Energy has already commenced CSR efforts, including road rehabilitation from Ukwunzu to the NYSC Camp in Issele- Uku, with plans to extend to Onicha-Ugbo. The company also announced upcoming youth empowerment programmes targeted at the area’s young population.

Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Chinye noted that the administration welcomes strategic collaborations that support infrastructure development, power generation, and economic growth. The state’s economic team, he said, was on ground to evaluate the viability of the proposed power plant and its potential impact on the region.

Among the officials present were the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Dr. Barry Gbe; Special Adviser on Investment, Hon. George Orogun; Director-General of the Delta State Investment Development Agency, Hon. Anthony Elekeokuri; the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr Samuel Oligida, senior executives of Mosra Energy Ltd; expatriates; and other state and local government dignitaries.

The inspection tour also included visits to coal mining laboratories, royal palaces of host communities, and erosion-affected areas across the Obomkpa–Ukwunzu– Ugboba axis. In the course of the visit, palliative work was ongoing on critical portions of the Issele-Uku NYSC Camp road.

Hon. Chinyere iterated his administration’s vision to drive inclusive governance and infrastructure delivery, assuring constituents of “MORE GAINS WITH RENEWED HOPE” through sustained partnerships and development-focused leadership.
