- As Angry Youths Burn Suspects’ Building
A 26 year old young-man was stabbed to death by unknown youths suspected to be cultists in Okwe area of Asaba, Delta State capital.
It was alleged that the boys were called by a lady and her husband who operate a restaurant in the area.
Trouble started when the victim along with his friends drove to a restaurant to buy food in Okwe main town.
According to an eyewitness, the victim parked his car in between the restaurants, and then came out to buy food for himself and his friends when one of the ladies who owned another restaurant close to where he intended to buy food asked him to remove his car from the front of her own restaurant since he was not buying from her.
As a result, the woman who owned the restaurant where the victim parked allegedly slapped the victim and used wood to hit him also. It was alleged that the daughter of the suspect joined her mother, slapped the victim and immediately called her father who called in with some boys.
It gathered that when the boys suspected to be cultists came in, they started beating the victim with blocks and stones and later stabbed him with a knife.
The victim managed to run away, but the suspected cultists chased him to the gate of the sister’s compound where they finally killed him and fled.
The sister then rushed him to different hospitals, but was confirmed dead due huge loss of blood that cover all his body.
Due to the situation, unknown area boys that were angry burnt the hotel and the residential building of the suspects.
Our correspondent reported that police operatives have arrested the woman, her husband and one of the boys working in the suspect’s restaurant, while the remains of the victim were deposited in the mortuary of Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
Efforts to speak with Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State on the matter proved abortive as he was not answering his calls as at the time of filing in this report yesterday.
