KIDNAPPERS have demanded a ransom of ₦1 billion for the release of a Chinese expatriate and his Nigerian colleague, who was abducted during a violent attack on a mining site in Kwara State.
The victims, identified as Mr Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr David Adenaiye, a Nigerian, were kidnapped during an assault on the site, which also resulted in the deaths of two officers from the Police Mobile Force assigned to protect them.
The ransom demand was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama through a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Makama, the abductors used the victims’ mobile phones to contact an associate, Mr Leo Liang and demanded the billion-naira sum in exchange for their release.
Security forces and local vigilante groups have since launched a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at locating and safely recovering the kidnapped men. Efforts are ongoing as authorities continue to track the perpetrators.
