TARABA State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has led a high-profile delegation to India to attract investors to the state’s agriculture and food processing sectors.
The visit, at the invitation of the African Development Bank’s Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ) initiative, aims to strengthen the local economy and build on recent progress.
Under the SAPZ model, investors are expected to provide eighty-five per cent of project financing, with the government contributing fifteen per cent.
Governor Kefas reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustainable public-private partnerships, with a focus on rice production, grains, and root and tuber crops widely cultivated across Taraba.
During the visit, the delegation toured facilities including AgTech Innovation Labs, Prasad Seeds Company in Hyderabad, and PAN Seeds Company.
They also met with agro-confectionery firms, a recycling paper factory, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and representatives of China Railway No 3 Engineering Group Ltd. The governor expressed optimism that Taraba would be selected for the SAPZ establishment, creating opportunities for new processing industries.
Meanwhile, the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is preparing for the 2025 farming season by launching a fertiliser distribution exercise and expediting the delivery of government-procured tractors.
These efforts aim to enhance land preparation and boost crop yields, supporting Taraba’s wider agro-industrial ambitions.
