THE Councilor representing State Ward 11, Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area, Hon. Mercy Isuwa has demonstrated grassroots leadership by empowering over 250 women from Ogbe-Obi, Abavo. The beneficiaries received cash, wrappers, and food items during a well-attended empowerment event held at the Ogbe-Obi Community Hall.
The event, which brought together party stakeholders, community elders, youth leaders, and women across the ward, was marked by gratitude, celebration, and renewed community spirit. It opened with a prayer led by Chief Joseph Odijie.
Mr. Lucky Osaigbobu, Ward 11 APC Chairman, commended Hon. Mercy Isuwa for her achievements and pace-setting leadership, saying that the APC Ward 11 was proud of her.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Isuware called a touching moment during her campaign when women braved heavy rain to attend. Moved by their sacrifice, she made a promise to support them if elected. “During one of my consultations with the women, it rained heavily. Many of them got wet as they gathered in the hall, determined to hear from me. I promised that if I win, I would provide wrappers as a sign of appreciation. Today, I have kept that promise.” As part of fulfilling that vow, 250 women received wrappers in appreciation of their support during the election.
Hon. Isuwa presented a cheque to the wife of late Mr. Fidelis Solomon, former APC Ward 11 Chairman, who passed away on the eve of the local government election. “This is a token to show that the APC has not forgotten you or your children. Your husband was a pillar in Ward 11, and we will continue to honor his legacy,” she said.
She praised Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for his visionary leadership and role in nurturing leaders. “Okowa brought us here. He made no mistake. His foresight gave room for new leadership that puts the people first. We are grateful,” she emphasized. She further encouraged women and youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the democratic process.
In addition to the wrappers, Hon. Isuwa distributed food items and cash to the women and other members of the community. Every attendee received a gift — a reflection of her inclusive and people-centered leadership. Beneficiaries praised her for her humility, responsiveness, and commitment to the well-being of the people.
