International Civil Service Conference: Tinubu Speaks On Minimum Wage

By Emmanuella Oghenetega

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, today, at the International Civil Service Conference, spoke on the minimum wage of civil servants.

He stated that, in keeping with the commitment to a Service responsive to workers’ needs, his Administration has prioritised key welfare policies to improve Public Servants’ well-being which includes; the new national minimum wage, the consequential adjustments to salaries arising from the new minimum wage, and the approval of the Pension Bond Scheme among others.

These policy instruments, he said, are social compacts that reflect the recognition of the sacrifice and Service of the workforce.

Speaking on the timing of the maiden conference, with the theme “Rejuvenate, Innovate & Accelerate!” The President stated that it is timely, apt and compelling, and captures the collective ambition to reimagine and reposition the Service.

He stated that, civil servants are not just the backbone of effective administration across borders but the very essence of it as their role as the quiet architects of stability, innovation, and public trust, is invaluable
He appreciated the international partners and delegates to the conference for their support. “Your collaboration and guidance have been invaluable in building a world-class Civil Service that is efficient, accountable, and people-centred.

“I thank the United Nations and the Government of the United Arab Emirates for facilitating the Executive Leadership Programme on Leadership and Digital Literacy. Your initiatives have strengthened our senior officials’ strategic capacity and inspired us to aim higher. We look forward to deepening our global partnerships and forging a shared vision that lifts every nation through mutual respect, pooled innovation, and collective wisdom.”

President Tinubu commended the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for her outstanding leadership and pursuit of reform. Stating that, her stewardship has driven the successful implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025, marked by milestones such as digitalising work processes, continuous learning initiatives, and launching Service-Wise GPT – “our homegrown AI tool to enhance policy execution and efficiency.”
