Insecurity: No Nationwide School Closure, FG Clarifies

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has made further clarification on the closure of schools in the country due to the current spate of insecurity.

In a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Federal government said that some of the stories making the rounds in the media regarding the closure of schools were false.

The ministry informed the public that the message currently circulating on social media platforms, alleging that schools nationwide have been directed to close from November 24,  2025, is false, misleading, and did not originate from the government, any State Ministry of Education or any recognised security agency.

“The public is strongly advised to rely strictly on verified information issued through the following official channels: The Federal Government, The Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments and State Ministries of Education or recognised security agencies.

“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared. Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it to curb the spread of misinformation.”

Recall that the government had previously announced the closure of about 47 government-owned schools located in the northern part of the country.

The decision was reached following recent abductions of students from various schools in the north, the largest numbers coming from Niger and Kebbi States.
