Illegal Fuel Storage Explodes, Kills Five In Rivers

A devastating explosion in a residential area at Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Rivers State, has claimed the lives of five persons, including four women. The blast occurred when a cooking stove being used to prepare noodles ignited illegally refined petroleum products stored in one of the rooms.

The Rivers State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the casualties, stating that three of the women were burnt beyond recognition. She emphasized that investigations were ongoing to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

She noted that authorities have warned against the illegal storage of petroleum products in residential areas, citing the grave risks to lives and property. This tragic event underscores the dangers of such practices.
