Hit-And-Run Driver Reports Self To Police After Fatal Crash

BY KASE GREATNESS

A shuttle bus driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident along the Asaba-Ibusa Expressway has turned himself in to the police, following the tragic death of a pedestrian.

The accident occurred recently when the driver, reportedly returning from Ibusa, struck a young man who was attempting to cross the expressway with his brothers. The impact led to the immediate death of the pedestrian, sparking tension at the scene.

Fearing mob action, the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene, seeking refuge at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Asaba, Delta State, where he reported the incident.

Sources at the station confirmed that the driver was taken into custody upon surrender and is cooperating with investigations. The family of the deceased, who later arrived at the police station, was informed of the driver’s arrest and the circumstances surrounding his flight.

Police authorities have since urged the grieving family to proceed with burial arrangements while assuring them that efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served.

The driver is reportedly being compelled to meet certain obligations, including paying a fine to appease the bereaved family as part of the resolution process.
