DELTA Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the private sector to promote housing development in the state.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Godknows Angele made this known during a meeting with representatives of the Umudaike community in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, yesterday.
Representatives of financial institutions, including Delta Trust Mortgage Bank and Zenith Bank, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Kwejubola Nigeria Ltd., Mr Emmanuel Kwejubola, attended the meeting.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s readiness to partner with private developers to upscale the state’s housing sector in line with Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
Angele said the state was determined, among other things, to alleviate the suffering of the people of Delta, particularly civil servants, who face daily challenges due to the constant increase in house rent. He noted that through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, housing would be made more available in the state, and the high cost of renting apartments would be addressed.
He, however, cautioned developers to adhere strictly to required construction standards to ensure durability, adding that any substandard structure would be demolished. Earlier, the developer, Kwejubola, said the company would meet with the Umudaike community to finalise the project details.
According to him, the project involves about 1,000 plots of land spanning 250 hectares, located opposite Admiralty University.
Kwejubola said that the project was a PPP scheme and when located in the area, would open up the environment and serve residents of Asaba and its environs.
He assured that once the 30 per cent payment was settled with the landowners, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be drafted and signed with the state government.
Also, a member of Umudaike community, MrTunneh Emmanuel, expressed their happiness in partnering with the developer.
He said there was no doubt that the venture would bring further development and increased government presence to the benefit of the people of Ibusa.
