Victims of the recent flooding in Oyigbo and Gokana local government areas of Rivers State have received support from Governor Sim Fubara, bringing the total number of local government areas to benefit from essential relief materials to eight.
The distribution was held at the Central Medical Store in Port Harcourt, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing response to the natural disaster.
Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Vice Chairman of the Rivers State Flood Management and Prevention Committee, Dr. Inygi Brown, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting communities devastated by floods. Dr. Brown, who is also the State Head of Service, urged the local council chairmen to ensure the items reach the most vulnerable and affected families.
“The government is deeply concerned about the welfare of all citizens affected by this disaster,” Dr. Brown stated. “We are counting on the council authorities to ensure that these relief materials provide direct and timely succour to those who need it most.”
Brown represented the Committee’s Chairperson and Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, at the event. In response, representatives from Oyigbo and Gokana LGAs, Michael Onyedinma and Baribode, expressed deep gratitude. They thanked the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and the Flood Management Committee for the timely intervention, which they described as critical for the recovery of their people.
With this latest distribution, the state government has now provided flood relief aid to a total of eight local government areas. The beneficiary councils are Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Ogba/Egbema/Adoni, Abua/Odual, Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, Oyigbo and Gokana.
The relief materials are expected to provide immediate assistance to displaced families and help them begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
