THE Chairman, Oshimili North Local Government, Chief Innocent Esewezie, recently met with security operatives’ re-strategies on best to tackle the security challenges confronting the local government area.
Chief Esewezie, who met with heads of security agencies, used the opportunity to call on residents to ensure strict compliance to the recently proclaimed curfew as announced by the local government in the communiqué issued recently by the local government authority.
He also called on security agents to keep up with strict implementation of the communique, noting that it was paramount to push all acts of criminality out of Ibusa and the local government at large.
The army unit commander, Captain Musa, warned residents against flouting the curfew and other items in the communique. “We will implement the communique 100 percent” said Captain Musa.
In his remarks, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Anthony Adefolalu, called for cooperation from all security operatives in order to get more results.
The Ikwele Ibusa, Chief Celestine Okafor, noted that it was time for local security operatives to carry out accreditation at the palace. To avoid further compromise, he noted that individuals who go through the traditional screening will be the only ones allowed to continue working.
The local government chairman also announced the appointment of Mr. Ifeanyi Eze as Director-General, Security. Those present at the meeting include Anti- Cult, ICP, Anioma Security Network, amongst others.
Meanwhile, the management of Oshimili North Local Government has appealed to the public, particularly indigenes and residents of the Ibusa community, to cooperate fully with security agencies in enforcing the seven-day curfew currently in place.
While acknowledging the temporary inconvenience, the council emphasized that the measure was necessary to ensure the safety of lives and property within the community. Working in collaboration with the Nigerian Police, the Director- General of Security, and local security architecture, the Council will use this period to clamp down on criminal activities, which investigations have revealed predominantly occur at night.
The council strongly condemned the unpatriotic actions of individuals using online platforms to incite tension and unrest. It reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing all security measures established to maintain peace and order, warning that legal action will be pursued against anyone found in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, which prohibits cyberstalking and the use of electronic communication to repeatedly issue provocative statements or false accusations that may incite violence or disrupt public order.
