Esewezie Lauds APC Leaders’ Intervention In Oshimili North Legislative Arm Feud

BY SUNDAY EGEDE

THE Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government, Hon. Innocent Esewezie has praised the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Elder Omeni Sobotie, the APC Delta North Senatorial Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka and leaders of the party in the area for their prompt intervention that led to the resolution of the issue in the Legislative Arm of the local government.

Esewezie, who was speaking while receiving the new Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Henry Olowu, harped on the need for political stakeholders to promote peaceful ambience that would stimulate sustainable socio-economic growth and development.

He also lauded the Clerk of the Legislative Arm, Mr. Benedict Agboje for his leadership role, noting that it was not out of place for councilors to have disagreements among themselves, adding, however, that such disagreements should not lead to breach of law and order.

According to him, when disagreements among members of the Legislative Arm threaten public peace and order, the Executive Arm would have no option than to step in with a view to resolving the issue.

The local government boss disclosed that the peace-loving people of Oshimili North Local Government Area will not accept any act of indiscipline and lawlessness, adding that political office holders were elected to provide the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Never again should we allow the use of thugs in this secretariat or the use of external influence or force to compel councilors to carry out a selfish agenda. Our assignment is to promote the tenets of democracy.

“We must ensure that our dear governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and all our leaders who made it possible for us to occupy our various positions feel the impact of what we are doing and the only way they will feel it is to do our jobs diligently and in accordance with democratic procedures,” he said.

In his speech, Olowu, who thanked leaders of the party for their timely intervention in resolving the issue in the House, said the loyalty of the leadership of the Legislative Arm to the party and the governor of the state is sacrosanct.

Earlier, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Benedict Agboje, while presenting the new Leader of the Legislative Arm to the Chairman, said what transpired on December 11, 2025 at the plenary session of the House was characterised by numerous inconsistencies.

“Whatever l did, whatever l wrote on account of that plenary was purely null and void based on the fact that l was under duress to act on inconsistent instruction. I apologise for having inconvenienced my leaders to that effect.

“I present to you, a new dawn in the legislative business of Oshimili North Local Government based on the dissolution of every legislative act and every position previously occupied by anybody based on inconsistencies and lack of adherence to strict legislative proceedings”, he said.
