Esewezie Inaugurates Panel On Ugbolu Autonomy Demand

IN pursuit of improved grassroots governance, enhanced economic opportunities, and stronger democratic participation, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, has inaugurated an 11-member committee to deliberate on the proposed autonomy of Ugbolu Community.

The panel, headed by HRM (Capt) Ifeanyi Clement Ejiofor (rtd), the Obi of Ukala, with HRM OpiliOdilile Paul, the Onu of Ebu, as Co-Chairman, was tasked to probe the long-standing agitation by Ugbolu for autonomy, alongside the opposing stance from Okpanam community.

The committee is expected to gather and analyze historical records, claims, and submissions from both sides while consulting stakeholders such as traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and security agencies. Their final report and recommendations will be submitted to the council for appropriate action.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, HRM Ejiofor, praised Hon. Esewezie for his foresight in setting up the body and for carefully selecting credible individuals. He assured that the committee would operate with fairness and integrity, stressing that every claim and document will undergo rigorous scrutiny. According to him, “history will judge us harshly if we fail to uphold truth and justice.”
