IN a bold and strategic move to invest in the future of young males across Oshimili North Local Government Area, the Chairman, Chief Innocent Esewezie, has continued to demonstrate strong commitment to the growth and transformation of the boy child, through a series of empowerment programmes, mentorship sessions, and life-building initiatives.
The most recent of these efforts was the just-concluded two-day mentorship and guidance programme tagged “Unlocking Potential: Mentorship and Guidance for the Boy Child”.
The event began at Illah Mixed Grammar School and continued at Omu Boys Secondary School and St. Thomas College, both in Ibusa. It was organised by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Chairman on Welfare and Domestic/Boy Child Matters, Ms Abigail Nwanze.
The programme brought together guest speakers, including the Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Talent Development, Ugagaghoene Ogheneyole, who engaged the boys on crucial topics such as self-worth, career development, discipline, goal-setting, and the importance of avoiding drugs and cultism.
These sessions were designed to inspire the young minds, equipping them with the knowledge and values needed for success. Soap making was taught as the key practical skill this year.
The Special Assistant on Girl- Child Matters to the council boss, Tessy Olimmah, in her address, reaffirmed the chairman’s dedication to supporting young boys not just through mentorship, but also through tangible empowerment, skills acquisition initiatives, and scholarships for exceptional students distinguished by their academic performance and character.
“Today’s boys are tomorrow’s leaders. We are committed to raising a generation of responsible, skilled, and self-reliant young men who will not only lead their families but also drive the socio-economic growth of Oshimili North and Delta State at large,” she said.
The initiative was widely applauded by community leaders, school authorities, and parents, who noted the positive impact such programmes are having in redirecting the focus of young people from crime and restlessness towards productivity and responsible living.
With continued support from the Delta State Government under Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the local government Chairman’s boy-child-centred programmes are fast becoming a model for youth empowerment and social change in the South-South region.
