IN a move to improve public healthcare delivery, the Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Jolly Ogbeide has flagged off a free malaria treatment campaign across the 32 primary health centres in the local government area.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Ogbeide said that the initiative was a direct response to the persistent threat of malaria, a leading public health challenge in the region.
Presenting the malaria drugs, the local government chairman reiterated that the free malaria drugs’ distribution was not a one-off intervention, but a sustained health policy that would run throughout his tenure.
He assured residents that his administration remained committed to reducing the burden of malaria and dengue fever, improving health outcomes, and fostering a healthier and more productive Ikpoba-Okha.
The Chairman, Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Dr. Richards Edosa, in his remarks, said the initiative underscored the collaborative efforts between local and state governments in tackling malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
Leading the distribution and monitoring team was the Secretary to the Local Government, Comrade Nosa Omoruyi, who supervised the delivery of malaria kits to all 32 wards.
He emphasized that the initiative reflected the administration’s unwavering commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare.
Omoruyi urged residents to visit their nearest PHC to access the treatment, assuring that the drug supply will be replenished regularly to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Also present at the various PHC distribution centers, the Medical Officer of the local government, Dr. Beauty Ehikioya, who provided medical oversight and support during the rollout phase of the campaign.
