TO further strengthen the infrastructural development of the state, the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) said it is ready to engage those responsible for faster release of funds for the delivery of key projects, particularly roads in the 2026 fiscal year.
Chairman, House Committee on Works and Special projects, Hon. Oboro Preyor, said this yesterday, during a 2026 budget defence, assuring that going forward, it would intensify engagement towards ensuring speedy release of funds.
Preyor said this when the management and staff of the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) appeared before lawmakers for the 2026 budget defence of the Agency.
Preyor, while responding to the Agency’s claim of poor release of funds in the previous years, 2024 and 2025 fiscal years, attributed it to bureaucratic bottle necks. To address the challenge, Hon. Preyor, flanked by members of the committee, assured that in the 2026 fiscal year, the Committee would strengthen its interface towards achieving the desired results.
Director-General of the Agency, Chief Emmanuel Ighomena recalled that in 2024 fiscal year, the sum of N2 billion was approved for the Agency, adding that out of the sum, N534 million, representing 26.7 per cent was released.
Also, in the ongoing fiscal year (2025), Ighomena said that while N3.5 billion was approved, N228.2 million, representing N6.52 per cent has so far been released. Meanwhile, in the 2026 fiscal year, the Agency is proposing the sum of N4 billion.
