DTHA Committee On LG, Chieftaincy Affairs Inspects Projects In Warri North

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has visited Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area.

The visit was to inspect projects executed by the Hon. Festus Ashima-led administration in the riverine local government area, as part of the legislature’s routine oversight duties.

Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, expressed satisfaction with the quality of projects executed by the Warri North Local Government Chairman, urging him to do even more going forward. “Certain things which have not been seen in the Warri North Local Government Area are what we are seeing now. On our part, we will reconcile what has come in and the quality of jobs done so far.

‘’In our assessment, we are impressed with the quality of jobs the Chairman of Warri North has done, and we pray that he will do more,” Hon. Dafe said.

He further commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for connecting Delta to the Federal Government and ensuring the state benefits from the Renewed Hope for More Agenda of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations, respectively.

Having reviewed the projects on the ground, Hon. Dafe agreed that the Renewed Hope for More Agenda was on course in Delta State and called for its sustenance across all local government areas. Also speaking, a member of the committee, Hon. Kenneth Preyor, told the Warri North Local Government Chairman that the House would assess his performance and, in due course, take a resolution based on the committee’s findings.

In his remarks, the Warri North Chairman, Hon. Festus Ashima, thanked the lawmakers for the visit, expressing confidence that their assessment of his scorecard would help shape decisions and initiatives to benefit people at the grassroots.

Ashima highlighted the environmental challenges facing project execution in the riverine area but stressed that, despite the difficulties, his administration was doing its best to deliver on its mandate.  He acknowledged Governor Oborevwori as a pillar of support, noting that the timely and unhindered release of local government allocations had made a significant difference to his administration’s performance.

Among the projects inspected by the visiting team were the Koko Modern Market, the Chairman’s official lodge, and the Executive Complex. However, projects in the riverine areas, including the Eghoro Health Centre and the Nurses’ and Teachers’ quarters, could not be accessed due to the state of the river at the time of the visit.

The House Committee also paid a courtesy call on a prominent chief of Warri Kingdom and immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chief Solomon Arienyeka, at his country home in Koko. The lawmakers were warmly received in what was described as a convivial atmosphere.

Other members of the House Committee present included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Fred Martins, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. Isaac Awanzia, Hon. Augustine Uroye, Hon. Ferguson Owon, Hon. James Aguoye, as well as assembly support staff.
