THE Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), yesterday, flagged-off the enrollment of 150 persons in Uvwie into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative (IEAI), describing it as a transformative healthcare programme designed to ensure that vulnerable and indigent residents gain access to quality medical services.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Uvwie community, Director- General of DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere medical assistance. “This is not just about covering medical expenses,” he said. “It’s about restoring dignity, preventing avoidable suffering and ensuring that no child or adult in Delta State is left behind when it comes to healthcare.”
The IEAI will directly benefit 150 vulnerable individuals adopted into the state health insurance scheme through the sponsorship of Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, a respected philanthropist and advocate for community development.
Akpoveta highlighted the broader impact of the state’s healthcare reform efforts. “Since inception, our programmes have enrolled over 2.6 million people, a clear reflection of public confidence in our healthcare delivery model”, he noted.
He praised Ighomrore as a “great son of globalism and a man of the people whose generosity exemplifies the spirit of philanthropy as an investment in humanity.”
“When generosity is directed toward providing health insurance for the vulnerable, it becomes the ultimate act of compassion and solidarity,” Dr. Akpoveta added, calling on Deltans at home and abroad to support the initiative and “create a ripple effect of positive change.”
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, sponsor of the 150 beneficiaries, reaffirmed his commitment to building a fairer and healthier society.
“This initiative represents my contribution to a vision of a healthier Uvwie where access to medical care is not a privilege for the few, but a right for all,” he said.
Dr. Ighomrore encouraged others in the private sector and diaspora to support similar interventions, noting that development is most meaningful when it touches real lives. He commended the Delta State Government for its “people-focused vision” and consistent investment in the welfare of citizens.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Board, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata applauded the DSCHC leadership for its transparency and tireless commitment to ensuring that all Deltans benefit from accessible and quality healthcare
