DPPC Marks MD’s Birthday, Nine Lessons, Carol

BY RITA OYIBOKA/JUDITH OBIANUA

JOY, gratitude and corporate solidarity took centre stage, yesterday, as the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), publishers of The Pointer newspapers, marked the birthday of its Managing Director, Mrs Rosemary Nwaebuni, alongside the corporation’s annual Nine Lessons and Carol Service.

The well-attended event, held at the corporation’s premises, drew an array of dignitaries, clerics, past and present staff and members of management.

The celebration featured Bible readings, carol renditions and a sermon, setting a solemn yet festive tone in line with the Christmas season.

Delivering the sermon, Pastor Fred Akor spoke on the theme “Servant Leadership”, drawing his text from Matthew 20:26-27. He emphasised humility, selfless leadership and giving as core principles for anyone occupying a position of authority.

“No matter the position you hold today, there is always another leader ahead of you, and above all, Jesus Christ remains the leader of everyone,” he said. According to him, true leadership is rooted in humility and service, stressing that anyone who follows Christ must embody His spirit.

Pastor Akor described giving as a practical expression of love, noting that the Christmas season calls for intentional compassion, especially towards the less privileged. He cited scriptures to remind Christians that love must go beyond words and be demonstrated through concrete actions.

“As we prepare for Christmas, there are people who do not know where their next meal will come from. Those blessed with material resources should step out and share. That is how we prove ourselves servants of Christ,” he said.

He further charged Mrs. Nwaebuni to continue leading by example, praying that God would elevate her to greater heights as she sustains a leadership style anchored on humility, service and generosity.

Speaking, the chairman of the board of the DPPC, Pastor Austine Igbine, commended the Managing Director for her disciplined leadership, describing her tenure as impact-driven and people-focused. Also speaking, former Board Chairman of DPPC and Executive Director (Projects), Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu, said the corporation was witnessing a season of consolidation and progress. According to him, DPPC was reclaiming its pride of place under her leadership.

In an interview, a former General Manager of the Corporation, Mr Samuel Ijeh, expressed delight over the event, noting that since Mrs. Nwaebuni assumed office as Managing Director, the corporation had recorded visible transformations. He said staff morale had improved significantly, adding that workers were happier and more committed to their duties.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chairman of the DPPC Board, Pastor Austine Igbine; former Board Chairman of DPPC and Executive Director (Projects), Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu; former General Managers of DPPC, Mr Celestine Ofuani, Mr. Bosah Iwobi, Mr. Monday Uwagwu, Mr Sam Ijeh, and Mr Godfrey Ubaka, among others.
